About Me

Hi! My name is Rick. I write under the nom d’ plume (pen name) of Richard Stephen, my first and middle names. “The Poetic Fool” is my screen name for my online writing endeavors.  My first love is reading and writing poetry.  Photography is a very close second. Unfortunately, in this day and age, poetry seems to be a dying art form.  My desire for this blog is to help change that just a little. I hope that by sharing my original poetry and highlighting my favorite poems and poets here, you too may develop an appreciation, maybe even a love, for poetry as have I.

I never considered myself a creative individual much less a writer and a poet even less.  I had never had a desire to read nor write poetry.  It had always been an odious task.  I did not begin writing until I was well into middle age.  I originally wrote for myself only, to give expression to the sorrows and joys that I had experienced.  It was a cathartic, therapeutic exercise and helped me to crystallize the many disparate thoughts that ran through my head.

After allowing some close friends to read some of my poems, I was encouraged to publish them.  I must say the initial responses were encouraging and very gratifying.  Some of those poems are presented here as well as the works of other poets that have acquired deep significance to me.  You will find that I am a bit of a romantic and many of my poems reflect that.  I tend to write narrative rhyming poems that tell a story, usually with a moral or lesson.  Still, you will find a variety of poems here. If you like my writing, please consider purchasing my book. Your support and encouragement would be much appreciated!

I also enjoy photography immensely and will also use this blog to showcase my work and share about photography as I learn. I’m not ashamed to admit, as an amateur, I still have much to learn.  I hope you enjoy reading my poetry and viewing my photos as much I do creating them.  If they touch you in any way, feel free to leave your comments, suggestions and criticisms, for that matter.  They will be very much appreciated. Thanks for visiting my blog!

Welcome to my blog, Sonny! Thanks for the visit and the wonderful comment. I do enjoy photography and wish I had more time for it and to develop my skills. Unfortunately, between my work, family and writing there is not as much time for photography as I would like. Again, thanks for visiting!

I’m visiting your site for the first time Richard. It somehow feels like home to me. When I write poetry, I connect to myself on a higher level. I first began to write poetry after I lost my beautiful son to cancer. Writing saved me from dying from a broken heart.

Thank you Richard for giving poets a place to ‘roost’.

Hi, Audrey! I’m so sorry about your son. It’s something that shouldn’t happen. Parents shouldn’t out live their children. I think many of us took to writing to help us cope with emotional crises. I know I did. I’m glad you feel at home here. I just wish I could spend more time developing this blog. Still, I hope you will come back again soon. Take care!

Hi Rich, I am someone from hubpages. I used to have a page there but then I deleted everything and chose to remain anonymous. Even attempted to remove my footprint from the web. What made me delete my poems I will never be able to tell. But I figured I can always write new things only perhaps in time I realised that perhaps my primary motive was to write for my audience. I would like to thank you for quoting me somewhere within the realms of your website.

Hi, my anonymous friend. I believe I know who you are and I’m sorry that it’s been necessary for you to disappear from the web. I enjoyed your writing very much and do miss it. I hope someday you will be able to share your talent with us again freely. Best wishes to you, my friend.

Thank you so much! It was fun writing and publishing it. Unfortunately, publicizing it is so much fun for me. Still, thanks for the well wishes!

    Hi Rick,

It is good to see that you have this website to share your poetry.

As I read “This Life Apart,” I stopped and thought, that there are probably more people than we know stumbling through a fog of grey.

Hope you are well my friend.

Hi, Sue! I hope all is well with you. Yes, I suspect you are right. I’m sure there are a lot more than we know. Sad but true. Thanks for reading and commenting, my friend.
