isn’t that what they say?

Poetry.LA has it’s finger on the pulse of the Los Angeles poetry community.

I recently stumbled upon the Poetry.LA website while Googling for poetry events in southern California. I was immediately captivated by this creation of Hilda Weiss and Wayne Lindberg. Rather than attempt to summarize what they’ve done on their site, I’ll let them tell you. The following is taken from the Poetry.LA Facebook page:

Poetry.LA is an online video showcase featuring established and emerging poets videotaped at various venues throughout Southern California. It’s an up close look at a variety of poetic voices, including interviews with poets and publishers. The venues where poetry readings are held are also spotlighted.

Started in 2007 by Hilda Weiss and Wayne Lindberg, www.Poetry.LA posts videos of established and emerging poets recorded at many So. Cal. venues. It also runs video interviews with members of the L.A. poetry community.

You can learn more about this great resource at http://www.poetry.la/ and follow them on Facebook, if you like. You’ll find a multitude of talented established and emerging poets as well as information about poetry events in SoCal and more. They even have their own YouTube channel! Check it out!

Why We Should Read Poetry

I followed a link on a tweet I recently received and found a most interesting article. It was written by Amy Lowell who live from 1874 to 1925. Though dated, it makes an excellent argument for the necessity of reading poetry. You can find the article here.
