I Know, Mother, I Know

Anne Sexton was a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and, like another favorite of mine, Sylvia Plath, battled mental illness for much of her life. Indeed, she took up writing poetry at her therapist’s suggestion. Also like Sylvia, she ultimately could not fight off her inner demons and took her own life at the age of 45.

Today I found on Twitter a link to an interesting site, Letters of Note, with a letter written by Anne Sexton to her then 15-year old daughter that, while very touching, provides some interesting insight into the life and thoughts of this great poet. You can find it here.
