To Julia by Robert Herrick

Robert Herrick

I continue to find wonderful little poems by the romantic Cavalier poet, Robert Herrick.  Herrick wrote a number of these four-line poems, called quatrains, to the objects of his love.  At risk of sounding sappy, if you visualize what he writes in this quatrain, you can’t help but find it romantic.

To Julia
by Robert Herrick

Julia, when thy Herrick dies,
Close thou up thy poet’s eyes;
And his last breath, let it be
Taken in by none but thee.
